Every line on our face tells a story, as the saying goes. The reality is that all lines on our face are part of our character and appearance, like fingerprints and are somewhat unique to us all.

There are many underlying causes of lines on our face such as our genetic make up, sun exposure, lifestyle factors such as cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption, hydration, nutrition, occupational exposure, general health and even the effects of certain medication.

However, the main determinant of lines, in particular of the upper facial region are from movement or contraction of the underlying muscles of facial expression. This muscle activity can be quite overactive in some people and result in deep lines and furrows forming across the forehead, in the frown region or around the eyes resulting in more exaggerated appearances of ageing.

Reducing the movement and contractility of these muscles of facial expression can be achieved by the careful administration of neuromuscular agents that temporarily interrupt the nerve signal to these muscles resulting in muscle relaxation. This in time enables the overlying skin to relax and repair from the constant creasing and scrunching effect that these muscles exert, resulting in a softening appearance of the treated regions.

This treatment is an office based procedure that involves the use of ultra-fine needles to administer the product in the desired regions with minimal downtime and with results that can usually be seen within a few days and can last up to 4 months or longer in some cases.
